I mean maybe this is his way of getting back at the whites, by scamming them and hustling them. Stealing their women, getting money by easy jobs while partying all nights. Malcolm's thoughts to change the way blacks were seen at the beginnging of the book are completely lost. He hasn't created a way to better the black race but has created a worse image for the black people.
I guess all people are hypocritical at some points in their life. In my personal experience i have been hypocritical in terms of friends. Once my friend's had a party and didn't invite a few girls i thought should have been invited because we are all on the same sports team. I didn't agree with what my friends did and i thought it was rude to exclude only a few people. However, when i had people over my house a while later i too excluded people from coming. Not the same girls but it was the same kind of behavior i had condemned earlier. I realize now i was wrong to do this. I think there is a hypocrite in everyone but whether you realize when you are being hypocritical is the difference between responsible and irresponsible people.
This article is about a study done on the idea of hypocrisy. This article http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/080707-moral-hypocrites.html suggest that people don;t judge themselves as harshly as they judge others. I think this directly relates to Malcolm because he judges whites so harshly on every little thing they do. Yet he is the one using illegal substances and committing crimes. It is ok for him to go against the law yet it is not ok for one white man to say a bad thing about blacks. He does not admit at all that what he is doing could be somewhat equal to the wrongs whites commit.

Victoria--Very interesting thoughts here! I want to read more of them, along with an accompanying example from your own life that will illuminate your points. Also, find some web content that brings the two together!
i agree with your ideas. malcolm totally demeans himself when expressing to reader's that blacks should not be viewed as the minority in society. it's not that i think blacks are less important than whites (because they definitely aren't) but malcolm contradicts his thoughts with his actions. he becomes someone that whites bash on and malcolm becomes "brainwashed". He degrades his outside appearance and does not stay true to who he is and the thoughts that linger inside his head. maybe he falls to such a low in his life to to get back at the whites like you said. But i think a better way he could have proven the whites wrong was by being that one black person to rise above them all and have a positive influence on others (like he does in later chapters).
I agree 100%. Malcolm is the biggest hypocrite ever! However, that part of the whole getting back at the whites by being a hustler and stealing their women (etc) kind of does make sense. But at the same time, he's always saying how whites suck and black are amazing and we should be separated. And yet he wants everyone to be united...? What is going on in this guys head?
