Hypocrisy at it's finest #5

In the latest chapter's I've read of Malcolm X, I'm starting to realize that Malcolm is a hypocrit. He always has pushed the fact that the white men have put down the blacks. That whites are disgusting and demeaning to blacks. When he first moved to Boston he criticized the people who lived on "the hill" saying how they thought they were high class even though they were shoe shiners and laborers. If Malcolm believes that blacks can be just as prestigious in his time as whites then why does he become a hustler and druggie and a thug? He always wants to prove that Blacks shouldn't be the ones on welfare or who live on the outskirts of town yet he puts himself in the slums doing dirty work for others.
I mean maybe this is his way of getting back at the whites, by scamming them and hustling them. Stealing their women, getting money by easy jobs while partying all nights. Malcolm's thoughts to change the way blacks were seen at the beginnging of the book are completely lost. He hasn't created a way to better the black race but has created a worse image for the black people.
I guess all people are hypocritical at some points in their life. In my personal experience i have been hypocritical in terms of friends. Once my friend's had a party and didn't invite a few girls i thought should have been invited because we are all on the same sports team. I didn't agree with what my friends did and i thought it was rude to exclude only a few people. However, when i had people over my house a while later i too excluded people from coming. Not the same girls but it was the same kind of behavior i had condemned earlier. I realize now i was wrong to do this. I think there is a hypocrite in everyone but whether you realize when you are being hypocritical is the difference between responsible and irresponsible people.
This article is about a study done on the idea of hypocrisy. This article http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/080707-moral-hypocrites.html  suggest that people don;t judge themselves as harshly as they judge others. I think this directly relates to Malcolm because he judges whites so harshly on every little thing they do. Yet he is the one using illegal substances and committing crimes. It is ok for him to go against the law yet it is not ok for one white man to say a bad thing about blacks. He does not admit at all that what he is doing could be somewhat equal to the wrongs whites commit.
The video we watched in class was completely disturbing. It's actually amazing how ignorant we are today of the past even though we act as if we know everything. Maybe that's just me but a lot of the images in that video somewhat surpirised me. The way blacks were depicted is disgusting and demeaning and it baffles me to think that a small minority of people thought it was wrong while the rest believed it was normal. Another thought that surprised me was that even blacks began to think this was normal because these images were all that they saw of colored people.
Gab G. brought up the idea that if people never talked about how these images were bad or demeaning, what would the world be like? That really makes me question this too. The world definitely wouldn't be better, but what would it be? Would blacks still be seperated from whites?Would they still be depicted as stupid and laughable? It's crazy the amount of impact these images had on people. That blacks believed it as well as whites. That if they kept printing them we would buy into it still today without ever openly saying anything. Just the pictures that are ingrained in everyone's minds. It's scary to think what the world might have been if people didn't stand up and say that these things were wrong. The advertisements and entertainment of this time truly changed our country for the worse. Advertising companies have a great toll on the way people live and see things. I wonder if they realize how much power they truly have.
